Mockups are an effective way to display interface designs. With Midjourney, you can easily produce professional mock-ups with exceptional quality that promote your products and business!
With the right prompt, you can create a prompt that can take your mockup designs to the next level.

MidJourney AI is an awe-inspiring platform that can create highly detailed visuals with its text-to-image prompt feature! It’s quite a boon for the creative industry.
If you are just starting, I know it’s challenging to craft the perfect prompt. So, here is a beginner’s guide and list of prompts to get you started:
Today, I will show you how to create professional mockups step-by-step with the right prompts and tools.
Start with a basic mockup and we will refine and add in more details with items, settings, and contexts.
- Start with the Basic
- Decorating Items and Objects
- Setting and Context
- Retouch with Materials
- Refine with Style
I will also walk you through creating a professional mockup with your own products at the end.
Let’s get started!
1. Start with the Basic
We can always start with one simple product or interface that comes with a clean plain background.
A simple mockup with minimized surrounding items is great when you want your design to stand out
You will want to include the word
- plain surface
- clean background
- < color > background
Smart Phone Mockup — Basic
Prompt: Mockup empty, blank iphone screen, on a plain surface

If you find this to be too plain, we can always refine it with a bit of human touch by adding a hand.

Prompt: Mockup empty, blank smartphone screen, a hand holding the phone, plain background

Let’s try one more with a tote bag mocjup.
Tote Bag Mockup
Prompt: Mockup empty, a person’s holding a white blank tote bag

Ummmmmmm, how creative, Midjourney! 👀
Although we are looking for some basic mockup, you will want to be specific with the words in your prompt.
So make sure you add details in your prompt to be more accurate. This time, I added the word “hand’ ✋🏻 and “yellow wall”
After refining the prompt, here is the result!
Prompt: Mockup empty, a person’s hand holding a white blank tote bag, in front of a yellow wall

2. Adding Decorating Items and Objects
Let’s take this mockup up a notch and add in some office staples — pencils, pens, a coffee mug, some vases with colorful flowers or some plants to really make it look authentic.
Here is a list of items that often appear in professional mockups
- plants
- stationaries
- eyeglasses or sunglasses
- magazines
- pens
- books
- vase of flowers
- coffee cup

You will want to make sure that you write the right prompt to get a transparent background which is essential if you want to place the design on a mockup.
Let’s keep going! This time, I want to create some more mockups with different interfaces which is extremely useful for UI designers.

3. Adding a Setting
Next, it is essential to include a setting in the prompt — this provides your audience with a more concrete context.
This also varies depending on who your target audience is; a poster seen in someone’s living room, an office building, or even a coffee shop can change how your mock-up is perceived when you present to your client or audience.

Depending on the different settings, the style can be a whole lot different. To create a more vibrant setting, be sure to add an interior or architectural design style.

Creating stunning mockups with Midjourney is not that difficult, I think you may have noticed that it follows a specific format.
You can always use this basic structure to start.
Mockup empty, blank [ product ], [ decorating items ] [ background or context ], [ 1- 3 descriptive style], [ color palette ]
Use Case Example: Create A Professional Mockup for Your Product
1. Create a Product Image
First, you will need to prepare a product with transparent background. I am creating a bottle of perfume this time with Midjourney.
Prompt: A realisic perfume bottle, high end, elegant, feminie, floral, on a white background

Refer to this article for a step-to-step guide to creating an image with transparent background.
2. Create a Mockup Background with Midjourney
Next, we will need to create a mockup stage design with Midjourney with this basic format or you can take the prompts above as a reference.
Prompt Structure: A [ shape ], mockup stage design for products, [ 1–3 descriptive style ] [ color palette ]

3. Edit in Photoshop
Once your product and stage images are ready, hop into Photoshop or Illustrator and combine them. You will want to make the brightness or contrast adjustments for a more realistic look.

Here is the final outcome!

Alternative — Blend
Besides using tools to combine the images, I also tried Midjourney’s command — /blend
The /blend command allows you to upload 2–5 images quickly and then looks at the concepts and aesthetics of each image and merges them into a novel new image.

Despite not creating the result I had desired, this command still generated a wonderful mockup! Therefore, I highly recommend you try it to create some unique and extra-special mockups!
I hope you enjoy today’s post.
