Create an Image with Transparent Background with Midjourney
Step-by-Step Guide to Remove Background to Make Standout Content.
Midjourney makes it surprisingly easy to generate visually stunning images. Just enter some commands and a descriptive prompt, and you will be able to produce amazing image variations in no time.
However, Midjourney does not offer the functionality to create images with transparent backgrounds, not even when you add “transparent background” in your prompt as the default image format is jpg.
So, how can we create images with a transparent background?
The best way to resolve this issue is to first use Midjourney and create art with a plain white background and then edit it to remove the background by using other tools.
Allow me to welcome you all with this dreamy cup of coffee this time and let’s get started!

Midjourney
Midjourney’s AI Art Generative Tool is a revolutionary and powerful application that provides users with a unique way to create beautiful visuals. It unleashes your creativity, enabling you to generate stunning visuals faster than ever before.
Follow this quick start and prompts if you are new to Midjourney:
Today, I will show you how to achieve transparency in the images manually with the right prompts and tools.
And you can take your new transparent background image and put it on a new background. Creating professional mockups, logos and print-on-demand products can also be easily achieved after removing the background.

1. Create Your Image With A Plain Background
First, you will need to create artwork with a plain-colored, minimalistic background so it will be effortless to erase when editing.
Use A Clean background
To make it easier for you to remove the background from any image, you can type one of these keywords in conjunction with your prompt. That way, the process will be simple for you.
- white background
- plain background
- solid < color > background
Adding words like clean, minimal, vector and flat design also helps
Use negative prompting “— no” to remove the unwanted element
Adding a plain background to the end is not always enough. In some cases, we may need negative prompting, which can be achieved by writing “ --no <unwanted element>
” in the prompt.
--no text
--no shadows
This parameter can be added to prompts to remove unwanted elements. Adding the — no parameter is similar to saying “except for” at the end of a sentence.
For example:
- < Your main artwork >, white background, minimal
--no shadows
- < Your main artwork >, solid brown background, minimal
--no text
Prompt: a camera app icon, front view, white background, minimal
--no text

2. Remove the background with tools
After creating an artwork with a regular or solid background, we will need to remove the background.
We can use tools like PhotoRoom, Background Eraser or Adobe Express to eliminate the background entirely and produce a transparent image. All these tools allow you to remove the background of an image at ease for free!

Simply upload your image, let the tool work its magic, and you’ll be able to download your new background-free image in no time. Here you go!

PhotoRoom also allows you to switch the color background instantly with the color swatches above.

If you are looking for more editing and image retouching, PhotoRoom offers a web app that allows you to further customize your image.
Simply click “Edit in PhotoRoom” below the image, and you will be bought to their editing interface.
With PhotoRoom App, you can use their templates, add text, images and a new background like this gradient background below.

Basic editing can be achieved with the basic plan and some advanced features require you to upgrade to the Pro Plan.

Use Case 1: Create a Professional Mock-Up
With the “Instant Background” feature of PhotoRoom, you can easily switch the backgrounds of an image and create professional mockups like this one.

Use Case 2: Create A Custom Logo
Getting a transparent background also comes in handy when designing a logo, especially if we need to place them on products and mockups.
Let’s create a minimal logo for a coffee shop.
Prompt: A logo of a cafe, coffee bean, plain background, minimal
--no text

This time, let’s use Adobe Express. Similarly, all you need to do it to upload the image and wait for the background to be removed. You can download the image with a transparent background or click “Customize” which will bring you to Adobe’s editing interface.

Adobe Express offers unlimited tools and quick editing features for you to bring any kind of content to life. It provides you with free design assets, including text templates, icons, shapes, and more.
What I like the most is their font recommendations. This saves us time picking the fonts that match the most. It is great if you are looking to create a custom logo for your own or for clients.
