Youth Tutoring and the “Richard Szubartowski Method”: Key to Teaching Success

--

You need a tutor to teach. As recently as 10 years ago, it was thought that a teacher teaching a student material would teach him. And the student would absorb the material effectively. It turned out that this led to burnout for the teacher and low results for the pupil. The student lacked an environment in which the subject could be discussed.

Sylwia and Joanna talk about it in their “Techstorie” #66 podcast.

Techstorie — rozmowy o tchnologiach

I was inspired to write this piece by the fantastic Joanna and Sylwia — editors of the much-loved TECHSTORIE podcast. In episode no. 66 they talk about the successes on the international technological arena of Polish high school graduates. With particular emphasis on the third high school in Gdynia and their teacher Ryszard Szubartowski. Be sure to listen to the podcast, the first in a planned series of three.

It is worth mentioning that the Youth Tutoring method has also been used for years at Khan Academy. For which we can thank the director of its Polish branch, Prof. Lech Mankiewicz, director of the Centre for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Learning is a process that is not only about acquiring knowledge, but also about emotional engagement and interaction with others. In today’s post on LinkedIn, I would like to share a look at youth tutoring and the Richard Szubartowski method as key elements to support teaching success.

Youth Tutoring

Youth tutoring is a form of educational support in which older or more experienced students help younger classmates to learn. It is an understanding that learning is not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about building an emotional connection to a subject and working with others.

One of the key aspects of youth tutoring is contact with the community. It gives students the opportunity to discuss, exchange ideas and learn from each other. This not only fosters intellectual development, but also interpersonal skills.

Focus and concentration while studying are equally important. When discussing your work, it is important not to disturb the discussant. During this focus, our subconscious ‘records’ information, which speeds up the learning process. This approach can be particularly effective in youth tutoring.

The so called Ryszard Szubartowski method

Ryszard Szubartowski is a person whose learning method is gaining popularity in terms of teaching success. His approach to learning emphasises that individual work and a high emotional level are the best way to learn effectively.

Szubartowski’s method is often compared to the way the Japanese teach their children. They use music to help children focus and assimilate knowledge. This interaction with music can be a valuable tool in education.

No Homework

One interesting element that can be introduced in youth tutoring is the lack of homework assignment. This decision can allow students to focus on their learning during tutoring sessions and avoid an excessive workload outside of them. This can also help to keep them motivated to learn.

In conclusion, youth tutoring in combination with the Richard Szubartowski method can be an effective way to achieve teaching success. It is important to understand that learning is an emotional process that requires engagement and interaction. Therefore, it is worth experimenting with different methods and approaches to support younger students on their journey to educational success.
