What is UX Writing after all?

UX Writing is the practice of writing content that will be incorporated in systems, software programs or web interfaces such as Windows, Games and Apps, promoting interaction with its users. In other words, the UX writer final product will be the “text you see or hear when interacting with any user interface*”

“User interface is where a person and computer work together to get something done”.

For a better understanding, you can think of any framework you use in your everyday life, such as a social media page for example, and the steps you typically take to navigate through it. This is what we call your “journey as a user”.

In the figure below, you will find an example of how UX Writing works in the real world: the menu at the top of the screen indicates the actions you can perform in your journey as a user. When you access the “My profile” tab, for instance, a dropdown menu informs you where to click, and is based on your intentions. You can measure your activities, look further into your profile, check for notifications or configure your privacy settings. Every day, when navigating through user interfaces, we are guided by short “phrases” that provide the directions and indicate us where to click or upload media.
