“Positivity in life is the key to success, happiness, and a sense of fulfillment.”

When’s the last time you truly felt happy, encouraged, and inspired? Inspired to take action on self development, progression and continued learning. Those moments inspire me to be a better designer — and person.

Let me give you an example. About 10 months ago I was having a conversation in a coffee shop with a good friend just catching up as usual. The conversations turn to inspiring topics on how to be happy, how to stay positive with work and thinking of ideas to invest and earn more in life. I came out of the coffee shop feeling energised (no pun intended). Hopefully you’ve also experienced that feeling before. It was memorable because I left the conversation feeling fulfilled, inspired and motivated to take on new challenges such as putting a podcast together, read everyday having the hunger to learn and determined to work harder.

Quick things you can try today, and habits that’ll take a while to build

  • Have the mindset of wanting to be a lifelong learner
  • Getting out of my comfort zone to acquire new skills and welcoming change
  • Spending half an hour every morning to think about the day and visualise how I want each meeting and projects to go. Preparing for each day and feeling positive about the day ahead
  • Blocking out half an hour for thinking time at the start of the week to think about challenges I may have for the week ahead. And half an hour for reflection time at the end of the week to capture what I have done, learnt and what I have achieved
  • Seek feedback for continued learning and improving your performance as an individual
  • Be supportive and collaborative
  • Be positive, try to focus on the good things, learn to fail. It’s okay to fail
  • Focus on the little wins on a daily basis and share them with your team — inspired by the book The Making Of A Manager by Julie Zhou
  • Read books/self study — I religiously do this everyday
  • Disconnecting from reality — Travelling to have new experiences and enjoying nature

Conclusion

Surrounding yourself with positivity really uplifts you, influencing you to chase your dreams and to never give up. It’s also important to be around positive people who will motivate you, support you, offer feedback and encouragement. So choose carefully who you allow into your life.

In time, the results will be very rewarding.

  • Your attitude will change to become more confident
  • You will achieve more success in life and get to where you want to be whether it’s for your career or personal life
  • You will be happier and see a lot of things in positive ways
  • You will become a better person

I still have a long way to go and to explore this subject area. But I am grateful to have positive people around me to help achieve the things I have gained so far.

Ultimately, it’s down to you to make it happen. You just got to do it.
