Top five KPI’s I’ve set as a UX Designer in 2023

We often get bogged down in day-to-day tasks and are not able to focus on macro goals and objectives. From the past two years, I have set some important yearly benchmarks for personal assessment and it has definitely helped identify areas for improvement so that I can make adjustments to my design process and approach, and ultimately improve my quality of work. Some of the important KPI’s are as follows :-
Business Awareness

Business awareness allows us to understand the value proposition of the product or service they are designing for, the target market and customer needs, the goals and objectives of the organization, the competitive landscape, the budget and resources available for the project. This understanding allows us to make informed design decisions that balance usability and aesthetics with business objectives and user needs. Additionally, having business awareness enables us to communicate effectively with stakeholders and team members from different departments, such as product management, engineering, and marketing.
Active Listening

As a UX designer, it’s essential to understand the needs and goals of the users you are designing for. Listening to feedback and input from users can help you gain a deeper understanding of their needs, and design solutions that meet those needs effectively. You may assume that there’s nothing difficult about actively listening to others — that it’s something that comes naturally. That’s not true. It requires a deliberate, conscious effort and a steady stream of focus. Overall, listening is an important skill for a UX designer to have, as it allows them to gain a deeper understanding of user needs, identify pain points, collaborate effectively, develop empathy and continuously improve the design process and the user experience.
User research

Improving UX research skills requires a combination of learning and practice. One effective way to improve your research skills is to study and learn about different research methods and techniques. Important aspect of improving research skills is to stay informed about the latest industry trends and best practices. This can be done by reading industry publications, attending conferences, and networking with other UX researchers.
Visual design and UI elements

UX design isn’t just about what looks good — it’s about creating a cohesive product experience for users. Working as a web designer requires a lot of creativity, skills, personal, and professional development. Those who perceive the world in a new way, find hidden patterns, make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, and generate solutions will always remain competitive in our dynamic world. Some inspirations for UI include Godly, Awwwards, Behance, Dribble etc.
Connecting with Designers

This is the final and the most important of all KPIs as a UX designer. In fact if this is not aligned then all other factors serve no purpose. I make an effort to connect with other designers on a personal level, whether through email, phone, or in-person meetings. I find that one-on-one conversations can be a valuable way to learn about other designers’ experiences, particularly when it comes to the highs and lows of their careers. This can provide valuable insights and advice that I can apply to my own work.
Lastly, I also actively seek out and read case studies, articles, and blog posts written by other designers. This can provide a wealth of information about the challenges and successes that other designers have experienced in the field.
