My ShareChat Interview Experience: UX Designer-1
How I got my job offer for UX Designer role with ShareChat
Hi, I am Ayushi, and I am a self taught UX Designer. Recently I have received a Full-time offer from ShareChat for the position of User Experience Designer-1.
I am super excited to share my experience of ShareChat Interview and landing my dream job at a Unicorn Company. Ever since I started learning design(back in August 2021), I wanted to lend a job in this field. This is more like an Aim-Shoot-Fail-Aim-Shoot-Fail-Aim-Shoot-Win😛 kind of story, that taught me a lot.
I have been through rejections as well, but each and every interview have taught me something and made me stand today where I am. This is going to be long as I am trying to share as much information as possible with you. So grab your choice of liquid & munchies and let’s take a ride down my memory lane.

- HR Screening round-On Call
- Design Portfolio Round
- UX Design task
- Head of Design Round
- Product Manager Round
- Final HR round-Offer Confirmation
👉🏼 Disclaimer: Due to COVID situation all the rounds were virtual. I am sharing my personal experience, it may vary depending upon the role and experience level.
First Round: Recruiter Connect( March 31, 2022)
I got a call from the HR Team at ShareChat, the recruiter and I had a casual conversation about my aspiration and open positions at ShareChat that match my skill and experience. Here I would like to add that the recruiter was very friendly and helpful throughout the process! I want to suggest that do not be shy to ask for interview prep materials, tips/suggestions or even doubt regarding the hiring process💡.
The recruiter asked me generic question about my journey into designs, what tools I know and what is my notice period(just to confirm how soon I would be able to join if everything goes well!). I got some really good insights about the company. At the end of the call, the recruiter asked me when I would be available for the portfolio round, later in the evening I got the invite mail.
💡 Quick Tip: Applying to different companies requires different level and ways of preparation. Make sure you study the role and responsibilities thoroughly and then prepare yourself for the interview. Do your homework about the company, before going to the interview.
Second Round: Portfolio Round(April 1, 2022)
This was a Google Meet interview with a senior UX designer in the team. It was mostly around on my journey into design, a few ‘what’s-your-thought-on’ sort of questions, and a High level portfolio overview. If you have prepared enough, this round should be fairly easy for you 😅
I got some questions regarding my experience so far in UX design and What made me switch from a Software Engineer to a UX Designer. The interview was 1–1.5 hour long, giving enough time to answer everything in detail.
2–3 days later I got an email and a follow-up chat with the recruiter to know that I have passed the portfolio round and the next round will be ‘UX Design Assignment’.
💡 Quick Tip: The assignment are to understand your thought process and design skills. Make sure you express all of your efforts through a process presentation, making it stand out to the interviewer.
Third Round: UX Design Challenge (April 5, 2022)
This is a role-specific round as you can understand from the heading. Usually, every UX interview has a ‘Design-Challenge’ before the final interview rounds. I will not go into detail about challenge, as it is confidential but the challenge was more around the work which I’ll be doing in the company(aligned to the team which would be assigned to me). They gave me 2 days to complete the solution, which was fairly enough time to complete it.
I mailed the solution and all deliverable to the recruiter, and 3–4 days later I got the call confirming the next round of interview.😊
Fourth Round: Head of Design Round-Hiring Manager (April 8, 2022)
I prepared well around the challenge to answer all the questions this round. This was a Google Meet interview with the hiring manager. The focus of this interview to understand my problem solving skills, and how I think of a solution. I had such a great conversation with the manager on my career ambition, goals, and passion. I felt the connect and I was very encouraged to work with the team.
You are free to clarify any doubt regarding the role, responsibilities, and expectations in this round.
Later that week, I got a call from my recruiter mentioning the feedback and confirming the availability for next round of interview.
Fifth Round: Product Manager Round (April 13, 2022)
This interview was again on Google meet, ‘Collaboration’ was the focus area for this round. The interviewer asked a lot of scenario-based questions and few case studies to understand my thought process in-depth. The call last for 1.5 hour, which was quite long and at the end the manager asked me if I had any questions. I already got all my answers cleared during the interview and we ended the call on a good note, discussing about my availability on-site once after the final call.
Sixth Round: Final Call with Recruiter(April 25, 2022)
I received a call from the recruiter after a week and my heart skipped a beat! I remember it was the evening of April 25th when I got the call from my recruiter😬😬
‘Congratulations on your offer with ShareChat’, was the first sentence she said and I was so happy to hear this. This was the reward to all those sleepless nights I spent working on my case studies, on portfolio and learnings. I was in touch with TA team for the offer formalities for 2–3 days later the confirmation call.
On 28th April, 2022 I finally got the offer letter and my date of joining was finalised to 5th May, 2022.
Final Verdict
I feel blessed and happy to share that I have joined ShareChat as a UX Designer in the revenue & monetisation team. I have met some amazing and supportive people in the team! I eagerly look forward to a lot of learnings, exploration, collaboration, and contribution✨
How long is the process?
For my case it was almost a month as there was an urgency in the team for a designer, but this could vary depending upon various factors.
What did I learn from my experience?
- There are no shortcuts in achieving your goal, be patient, work hard and it all will come to you
- Recruiter is your ally
- Practice, practice, practice- the mantra for success
- Be flexible, open to feedback(even if its negative, learn and improve)
- Surround yourself with positive people 🙌🏼
- Have a mentor (makes a huge difference!)
