Midjourney Weekly Update (3rd January 2024): V6 will be the default version by the end of January 2024
Upcoming V6 Alpha improvements, Website Updates, holodeck, and Plans for January and February.

Happy New Year!!
I hope you have a wonderful vacation and are fully recharged before returning to work (or hitting the gym)!
Is the New Year’s resolution still a thing in 2024?
When asked by a fan during the Office Hours, David said he wants to continue making great things this year. I’m sure he’ll do it. So, let us see what happens.
Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent Midjourney Weekly Office Hours:
(1) Upcoming releases
- Midjourney V6 will become the default version by the end of January, with inpainting (Vary (Region) and outpainting features (Zoom and Pan).
- V6 updates will address the issues of V6 Alpha by next week.
- Niji 6 and a major website update are scheduled for next week.
(2) Midjourney V6 Alpha
- The developers gathered data following the release and observed how users interacted with the new Alpha version.
- David described the V6 Alpha as “pretty raw” at the moment, and he is dissatisfied with it. The images may be too sharp or blurry, depending on the circumstances. Images of old security camera footage are challenging to create, and it was suspected that this was due to some information needing to be included in the database.
- The plan for next week is to reduce unintended nudity (uncensored images with breasts), improve image quality and text rendering, and make the
--stylize
parameter work better at high stylize values. - David is considering future options for less restrictive filters/censorship but with specific licensing for a particular group of users.
- The inpainting Vary (Region) feature may take longer to release because it is a project with more than one remote team, and there are challenges in coordinating tasks across time zones.
