Learning Management System (LMS) — UX/UI Case Study

Thumbnail

Overview

The pandemic has caused learning at Telkom University to be online. So that learning activities are carried out through the Learning Management System (LMS) website.

LMS is a learning platform that is able to provide materials, assignments and discussion forums that students can do online.

Based on our experiences, there is no reminder system that is directly connected in the form of notifications, making us sometimes forget the timeline of tasks that have been given by the lecturer.

This is very difficult because we have to check directly on the LMS website, sometimes the assignment doesn’t even appear on the timeline on the LMS dashboard page, so we have to go to the course page first.

In addition, we sometimes find it difficult to find virtual meeting links and virtual meeting records. Because some lecturers provide information on virtual meeting links and record results through group chat media or don’t even provide news at all.

The Challenges

Based on this experience, we make a hypothesis that can represent problems experienced by other students as well. Here is the result hypothesis our discussion.

  1. Students sometimes forget the class schedule including if there is a task deadline (we will name it “problem 1”)
  2. Students have difficulty finding the link to the virtual meeting record results (we will name it “problem 2”)
  3. Students have difficulty finding the link to the virtual meeting (we will name it “problem 3”)

Research and Design Process

This case study uses Design Thinking as the basis for the design process.

  • Keep up with lectures
  • Diligent in doing tasks at LMS

In-Depth Interview

Question

Based on the results of our previous research, that college students of Telkom University

  2. Difficulty finding links for virtual meetings
  3. Difficulty finding the link for the virtual meeting record

Based on those problems, do you feel that way also?

Can you sort which are the top 3 problems that you feel?

For solving this problem, what do you usually do?
