How to level up your UX/R resume + get that interview

I’m currently doing a series called “Redo My Resume With Me” where I’m going through every section of my resume and updating it— check it out over on my Instagram!

One page is enough.

Seriously y’all — keep your resume to a single page! UX is slowly becoming more and more saturated, and while 3 pages of everything you’ve ever done that could possibly count towards being on a resume is tempting, recruiters probably don’t feel the same way. Keep it to one page and make it count.

Take advantage of bullet points or single sentences that highlight major accomplishments or specific projects to help condense information, and be sure to remove and redundant phrases or words.

This is not the time for your autobiography.

I’ve seen resumes with a personal bio that nearly crosses the boundary from quick summary to novel. Let your experience speak for itself, and consider utilizing some free space for a small summary that explains how you broke into the field of UX, what industry you pivoted from if you’re a career-switcher (like me!), and if you’re a researcher — what type of researcher you consider yourself to be.
