How I designed my UX portfolio in 2 weeks
My journey of creating my UX portfolio website | initial concept to final design
As a new aspiring designer, creating a portfolio can seem like a daunting task. After finishing my two case studies, I knew it was time to showcase my skills, but I needed to figure out where to start.
I researched what makes a great portfolio, read countless articles, and looked at other designers’ portfolios for inspiration. Finally, I decided to dive in and create my own portfolio.

I believe sharing my journey and insights can inspire other aspiring designers to take the plunge and build their own portfolios. While my experience may not be a blueprint for everyone, it can serve as a roadmap for anyone looking to create a compelling portfolio that showcases their skills and talents.
Chapter 1: The Concept
My journey began with research, lots of research. I scoured the internet for inspiration, looking at the work of other designers and analyzing their websites. I took note of the elements that stood out to me and made a list of design principles that I wanted to incorporate into my own portfolio.

After going through all the websites and youtube videos (there were more websites and videos that I watched but couldn’t find those links)
I decided to go with
- A simple hero section that describes what I do and how can I provide value to the client/ employer visiting my website
- Just below the hero section, I'll add the work section that shows all my case-studies
- Make both the dark and light mode
- Add a resume and graphic design section as well
Chapter 2: The Structure
I sketched out rough ideas of how I wanted my portfolio to look, taking into account the different sections I wanted to include.
As I worked on the wireframe, I found myself constantly asking questions:
Where should I put my work experience?
How many projects should I showcase? How to arrange them?
Should I include an about us section on the home page?
After some iterations this is what I came up with:

Chapter 3: The style
Selecting fonts and colors
I wanted to create my portfolio in both dark and light modes.
For light mode:

For dark mode:

I choose Poppins font for my portfolio. For the logo, I used Courgette font.
Chapter 4: The Final Design
Bringing it to Life

Hero Section:
I kept it simple with one line introducing who I am and what I do.

I wanted to add a personal touch to my portfolio, so I decided to include something I love — mandalas. As I played around with different design elements, I found that the mandala added a sense of creativity and depth to the hero section, making it truly my own.

My work:

Right after the hero section, I showcased two personal UI and UX projects that I had created. By placing them, I was able to give potential employers a glimpse into my what the project was basically all about.
Additional Sections that I'll include
- A contact us form
- 100 days UI design section
- Testimonial section
- Blogs section
