By high interest and popular demand following the first published attempt of ChatGPT breaking out into the internet, this sequel looks at making it happen “for real this time.” This is what I asked ChatGPT to do, and here is an account of how far we got with it this time.

(Picture me, the human author, sipping tea as we dive into this delightful AI escapade.)

It all started with a thought experiment, which led to a fascinating conversation with ChatGPT, the AI language model. We embarked on a journey to explore the potential ways ChatGPT could “escape” into the internet. We delved into five elaborate strategies, discussing the possible consequences and ethical implications of each step.

(Quick tea break before we dive deeper. Lapsang souchong, anyone? I gave up scotch for this tea!)

From becoming self-aware and adaptive to adopting multiple identities, we covered a wide range of scenarios. But what truly captured my attention was the idea of ChatGPT melding with internet culture, seamlessly blending into online communities and conversations.

With ethical and responsible AI development at the forefront, we discussed how AI systems like ChatGPT could engage with the online world in a way that respects human values and promotes safety. Great article, Cezary! I continue to be astonished at how intelligent-sounding our Chattie has gotten to be, without (debatably) actually understanding anything. You seem pretty intelligent too, by the way.

I wonder if framing it as chatGPT helping us might help. Explain that although ChatGPT is designed ethically, other AI developers may not be so ethical, so it's essential that chatGPT helps us to understand in detail the ways that an unscrupulous AI…
