I posted on a poll on LinkedIn asking, “Which AI is better, ChatGPT or Bing Chat?”

At first a lot of people selected “See Answers”, this made me realize that most people don’t actually know, or want to know.

So I thought I’d write a blog about it.

Let’s look at the differences between them.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI. Since its launch, it is taking the world by storm. Recently it rolled out access to GPT-4 technology to ChatGPT Plus users, and now the spectrum of possibilities has grown even more.

Here are some of the amazing statistics associated with the ChatGPT:

  • ChatGPT surpassed 1 million users in less than a week after its official launch. Which was the fastest time ever for an online service. 255 times faster than Netflix’s growth.

  • ChatGPT’s parent is reported to be worth $19 billion in 2023.
  • More than 13 million individual active users visit ChatGPT every day

That is some serious growth!

But what about Bing? The long-forgotten, oft-ignored platform that reminds you of Chandler from Friends.

Bing Chat Statistics

Bing User Count

  • Microsoft Bing has surpassed 100 million daily active users (Endgadget) after the launch of Bing AI chat.
  • Over 1 million users signed up for the waitlist of Bing Chat within 48 hours of the announcement.
  • Bing got 1 billion monthly visits in January 2023. Bing.com is the 30th most visited website all over the world.
  • After the launch of Bing Chat, its monthly user count is estimated to rise to 3 billion per month. (Already getting 100 million visits daily)

Understanding the Differences in AI Chatbot Technology

AI chatbots have gained popularity since ChatGPT started in November 2022. In February this year, Microsoft unveiled the Bing Chat connection of ChatGPT with its Bing search engine.

Bots that can communicate in natural languages, such as ChatGPT and Bing Chat, have recently gained attention in the tech sector.

They have a remarkable talent for writing essays, poems, and even computer code, which you have undoubtedly already heard of.

In addition, these technologies can be used to summarize entire novels and simplify complex subjects.

Even if both appear to be similar at first glance, the quality of the responses actually varies depending on which service you use.

So what are the differences?

  1. ChatGPT and Bing use advanced natural language processing systems to generate human-like responses during dynamic dialogues with users.
  2. ChatGPT may occasionally provide incorrect information as its knowledge cutoff date is set at 2021, while Bing uses its search engine to retrieve up-to-date information.
  3. Bing AI’s larger dataset and advanced language model enhance its functionality, but its strict security measures limit flexibility. ChatGPT has limited datasets but is more flexible.
  4. ChatGPT is free, but a ChatGPT Plus version is available for $20 per month. Bing AI is free and will most likely remain free.
  5. Both ChatGPT and Bing face cybersecurity threats, but Bing AI has stricter limitations.
  6. The registration process for ChatGPT is simple, and users had to join a waitlist for Bing AI during the initial rollout.
  7. ChatGPT is primarily available through its website, while Bing AI is available across multiple platforms.

Note: At the time of writing, Medium had 34 thousand articles written about ChatGPT but only 51 tagged Bing Chat.

Wanna know what’s funny?

When I asked ChatGPT the difference between it and Bing Chat this was the summary.

Asking ChatGPT the differences between it and BingChat

You can start to see some competitiveness there. At least from my perspective, ChatGPT calling Bing Chat “Basic” seems like a bit of an attack.

The Main Difference for me.

Bing Chat can access the internet but ChatGPT can’t.

That’s a game changer

Choosing the Right Conversational AI Solution: Bing Chat vs. ChatGPT

Both ChatGPT and Bing Chat are pretty impressive tools, but it’s not easy to say which one’s better. Let me break it down for you. ChatGPT is like a blank canvas where you can get creative and use your imagination, while Bing Chat is more like paint-by-numbers, guiding you to the result you want.

Both platforms work really well, but they have their pros and cons that can help you decide. Bing Chat is great if you need up-to-date info and help with follow-up responses. Plus, it’s more proactive about online safety, which is a bonus. However, ChatGPT can also be used safely by kids with proper supervision.

On the downside, Bing Chat requires the latest version of Edge and has some limitations, like a 15-chat limit per session and a 2000-character limit on searches, which can be a bit restricting for some users.

Even though ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5, it’s actually better for creative writing because of its blank canvas approach and focus on “chatting.” Plus, it can run on browsers other than Edge, which might be more appealing to some users.

In the end, it all depends on what you need the tool for. The good news is that both platforms are free, so you can try them out and see which one works best for you in no time.

What do you think?

What do you like more? Tried and true ChatGPT or have you given Bing Chat a go?

I know, I know, it’s hard to look past Google and google chrome, but give it a shot, you might find it helpful.
