This is a case study that I made while taking the “Google UX Design Professional Certificate” course. Maybe here I will not write in detail how the process is, for those who want to know the details of my portfolio, you can look at: https://www.behance.net/gallery/120894827/Recipe-Mobile-Apps
Project Overview
Main Problem : Don’t know difficult level of recipe and confused to determine whether the user can make dishes from the selected recipe
About Product : Mobile apps to help Young Mothers to easily find food recipes and how to make them according to the level of gastronomy.
Goals : help Young Mothers to easily find food recipes and how to make them according to the level of gastronomy.
My Roles: UX Designer, responsible to Conduct User Research and Usability Testing, Analysis and Synthesis, Designing Solution and Finalization UI
How will make it?
There are several steps involved in making the final design, namely:
- Understanding the user (User research, Personas, Problem Statement, User Journey Map)
- Starting the design (Wireframe, Lo-fi Design, Usability Test)
- Refine design (High-fidelity Design)
User Research : Summary
In conducting this research I used the interview method with 4 young mothers with an age range of 25–30 years living in Indonesia. Where these mothers are not good at cooking but want to be able to cook for their families with the skills they have now. Previously, I hypothesized that:
h1 : Need recipe level information
h2 : Confused to determine whether the user can make dishes from selected recipes
After conducting the interview I got a pain point and validation of the hypothesis that I made with the following results:
H1 : Need recipe level information
The user is indeed able to find the recipe she is looking for, but from the recipe found, the user must read it in detail and consider it in terms of raw materials and how to make it difficult or not. If it is not considered difficult to make, the user will continue to make dishes from the selected recipe. Meanwhile, if it is considered difficult, the user will look for something easier to make or compare with similar recipes.H2 : Confused to determine whether the user can make dishes from the selected recipe
Because they are not good at cooking, even though there is a written guide to make the recipe, the user needs a video tutorial to make it clearer in the instructions.
User Research : Pain Points and Findings
Based on the results of the user interview, getting the findings, namely:
- Find Recipe on Apps or Website
- Don’t know difficult level of recipe
- Need information trusted Source
- Too many option recipes
- Sometimes no video tutorials
Persona & Problem Statement
Problem Statement:
Sinta is a young mother and employee who needs recipe for cooking because she wanted to learn to cook and didn’t know how to make good dishes to serve to the family.

User Journey Map
To understand a product or service from a user’s perspective, I use a user journey map. This user journey map describes the visualization of the steps the user takes to reach his destination.
Name : Shinta
Goals : Find the desired recipe on the mobile application and select it to be used as a guide in making the dish later

How Might We

Starting the design : Wireframes
To be as generative as possible, I have an idea to provide information on how to cook according to the user’s skill level.

Starting the design : Lo-Fi Design

Starting the design : Usability Test
I am conduct usability test with 5 Participants with Unmoderated UT Methods for measure related to:

and then the results of the test found several problems, namely:

Refining the Design
Based on the results of usability testing, I made changes to:
Find Recipe on Apps or Website
- Font size of text level recipe
- Add recipe level information on details page
- Remove the save button and replace it with a save button icon which is more common by users

This is of Final Design
