Appreciating some of the greatest design themes (Netflix, Myntra, etc.)
We see many designers re-create existing apps by finding pain points and usability issues. But these apps are one of the trending ones in the market so lets take some time out and appreciate and get inspired from them as well. When I learned the Heuristic laws, surprisingly I started to see the good features of designs in the app, many saw flaws, I saw inspiration. I’m glad to share this experience with you all as well.
Netflix
The very first thing we all love is the ‘consistency’ throughout all the accessible devices. You don’t need a new tutorial or manual to navigate yourself around. It no doubt passes the ‘aesthetic & minimalistic design’ criteria. Netflix ensures that user sees those contents first in which the user has primary interest in; ‘flexibility & efficiency of use’. Netflix provides a feature called My List where the user can gather his desirable content enabling ‘user control & freedom’. Another one of the feature that all streaming apps are now following is the ‘visibility of system status’ showing where you last left off.

Lenskart
I believe this is the perfect business model. I’ve conducted various studies on this in my BBA-MBA projects and I absolutely love this concept. When we open the app, the very first thing we see is the previously bought products which comes under ‘flexibility & efficiency of use’ law. This is really helpful because everyone has a certain type in glasses, be it power specs or sunglasses and you hardly deviate from it. When you click on it you get various other related designs as well. Scrolling down you also come across the latest trends and options with very familiar icons. You don’t need to read the jargons, the icons justify their functions, a good example of ‘recognition rather than recall’.

The biggest USP that Lenskart work on is its AR Try On feature. So basically you just scan your face on the app and it places different frames on your phone. This is what sets Lenskart apart from the competition. The ‘match between system & real world’ engages user interaction more. Even though for fun, but users do get attracted to the AR feature.
Book My Show
The app diversification from movies to events to Buy/Rent online movies up to the entertainment blogging community. So this diversification did complicate the app a bit but it maintained ‘consistency & standards’ through out the channel. The app maintains the system of ‘helping user diagnose & recover from problems’ and give instructions before we book a show. In terms of ‘aesthetics & minimalistic design’ I find it’s movie ticket the most pleasing. I just feel like I wish I could hold this in paper format and show off to all.

Don’t judge the movie I saw but let’s just admire the design. The reason why I always choose book my show. Even though the user becomes thorough with using the app, after clicking on Book Tickets, it still shows all the ‘help & manual document’ to follow to ensure smooth functioning.
Myntra
Big Fashion Festival! This thing you see. But apart from this, you see the overall festive designs in the app. You know that they have this event. The usual system of Facebook and Instagram to view stories, you see the various categories Myntra is dealing in. The ‘consistency & standard’ we see throughout the first home page is fascinating. Not too loud, not too dull.

All the ‘aesthetics & minimalistic design’ patterns are covered up with ‘recognition rather than recall’ at bottom navigation bar. Myntra covers almost all the aspects of heuristics laws and design systems.
So that’s it for this blog. I’ll post again once I gather more insights on other trending apps. Let know what you think and share your favorite apps or websites in comments or maybe even the ones you hate and why. Let’s get the designer talk on!
Thankyou so much for reading. Have a nice day!
