AI’s potential to expand consciousness and how it made me appreciate our world
How AI reveals the perfect balance and harmony of our world in the way it tries to mimic it.
The beauty of AI-generated images and the real world which inspired it.
AI has become an increasingly popular topic of discussion in recent years, and for good reason. With advances in technology, AI is now capable of generating images that are often hard to distinguish from reality. As a designer who has spent hours generating AI images, I can attest to the beauty of these image, but more important was the realization of the reason for their beauty: they are attempting to reflect, like a mirror, something even more beautiful, which is the real world.
Seeing the mountains through the eyes of an image AI model
One morning, after spending hours generating AI images, I stepped outside and looked at the mountains. For a moment, I saw the landscape through the eyes of an AI-generated image. I was struck by the beauty of the landscape andI thought to myself:
“This landscape is just as beautiful as an AI generated image!”
Framed by two trees, the mountainous landscape hung like a perfectly composed painting, containing all the design principles: contrast, balance, proportion, hierarchy, repetition, rhythm, and pattern. In my mind, for one second, I felt like I was looking at a JPG that I had just generated with Midjourney. I continued to think:
“This looks just like AI!”
Realizing the perfect beauty of the real world
As I caught myself thinking something so absurd, a new realization followed:
“The reason why AI generates images with perfect harmony and balance is that it reflects the real world, which is made up of that same perfect harmony and balance.”
This realization made me appreciate the real world even more. I looked at the mountains with new eyes and felt a renewed sense of pride for our world. I began to appreciate what AI had shown me and thanked it for having shown me the world’s perfection in the way it tried to mimic it.
AI’s potential to expand our consciousness
This renewed appreciation for the natural world was one that I could not have had if not for AI, as it reflected the world from a new angle that did not exist before. It showed me the world through its eyes and made me consider the grand design of nature. Both AI and Nature seemed suddenly to possess an immense intelligence. Only one was artificial and the other natural.
As I looked at the mountains with my newfound appreciation, I couldn’t help but wonder how many other new thoughts and perspectives AI could introduce to humanity and expand our consciousness.
Similar to the introduction of reading and writing, which inspired new perspectives in ways that were previously impossible. With AI, we have a new tool that can help us see the world from previously unexplored angles and expand our consciousness. I anticipate that as AI continues to evolve, it will inspire new ideas and ways of thinking that we have yet to imagine.
Rejecting excessive reliance on technology
While our concerns about AI are certainly valid, we must not forget that the natural world remains perfectly balanced and in harmony. AI is merely revealing to us the same principles that have been governing the world since the beginning of time.
As technology becomes increasingly intertwined with our daily lives, it is crucial that we recognize the dangers of excessive reliance, addiction, and manipulation. However, this awareness also presents an opportunity to embrace a counter-culture of individuals who choose to disconnect from technology and return to a more natural way of living.
Returning to nature
When life feels too artificial and we long for a deeper connection to the world, I encourage you to turn to nature, just as I turned to the mountains, and experience the beauty and majesty of the real world.
Like the mountains that inspired my newfound appreciation, the natural world offers a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility that can never be replicated by AI. It is a constant reminder that, despite our advancements, we are still a part of something greater, a part of the natural order of things that has existed since the dawn of time.
In the end, nothing AI can generate will ever match the greatness and perfection of nature, and it is through nature that we may find balance and rediscover what it truly means to be human.
