A Very Personal Story of Love and Hate About Web3 and the Metaverse
This article reflects my personal truth. It chronicles the struggles, failures, and insights I’ve gathered over the past eight months of researching cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and web3. In conclusion, I’ve distilled these experiences into eight key lessons that I hope you’ll find beneficial.

Introduction
This is a personal story, one that I was hesitant to write. Yet, here I am, typing it out on my laptop. The idea has lingered in the back of my mind for months. I’m not one to talk about myself, so I kept pushing it aside. The internet is saturated with ‘personal stories’ that, as a reader, I tend to avoid. I find most of them to be clickbait, lacking valuable information. I hold my audience in the highest regard — I am a passionate and obsessive audience developer. I don’t want to waste their time, or mine. Yet, here I am, typing.
This is the story of how I became interested in blockchain and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. You can read here about NFTs and commercial rights, and a list of NFT projects by various companies. I’ve concluded that my experiences might help others, perhaps even provide some comfort, as they navigate the complexities of web3 and the metaverse.
I won’t delve into technicalities. That’s not my story. My story is about feeling lost and overwhelmed, threatened by the blockchain — yes, threatened is the word. But I was also fascinated and intrigued. This is what I did next.
How and Why I Got into Web3
It’s funny that I can’t recall how I ended up reading a whitepaper of Theta in October last year, considering that’s where my journey began. I suppose it happened serendipitously. One link led to another, and before I knew it, I was trying to grasp the concept of decentralization for video streaming and the watch-to-earn business model. I delved into it, and it was a revelation.
That was my ‘aha moment’. I suddenly realized: in ten years, my career would be obsolete.
