Building a portfolio is daunting (& scary). There are so many things to think about and implement that it can feel as if it will never be finished or good enough. This article was written with the sole purpose of helping you create a portfolio website that you can be proud of. So let’s get rolling:

Tip #1: Cut the BS

People love authenticity — and people are also very good at picking up on BS. Once the user picks up on this BS, it can ruin the credibility someone/something has.

When I was designing my portfolio, I read a lot of portfolios, and I read a lot of regurgitated UX jargon. It killed the vibe.

We, as designers, are here to build on the human experience, but to do that, you need to be human.

Your portfolio is a representation of who you are as a designer, communicator, and person. Be vulnerable and share a piece of what makes you unique, whether it be in your journey, your skillset, or just you.

You want to show your future employer or customer who you are. This is important because it not only helps you stand apart, but can also help align you with the correct opportunities.

Tip #2: Prioritize visuals
