10 reasons why I am obsessed with Canva (and why you should be too)

If you guessed I made this using Canva you’d be right.
  1. One-click photo AND VIDEO background remover
Yes, video too. Not only is this feature incredibly useful in so many different situations, I have yet to see it produce a bad result.
  2. Upload your own brand assets
For freelance creators or marketing agencies that manage or work with several clients, this is something that is key to reducing the time it takes to produce content for your designers as you have everything right at your fingertips — fonts, logos, color palettes. And you can easily switch between the different brand assets with one click. Without even leaving your design.
  3. Charts for days
You can turn your numbers or super boring data into pie charts, bar charts, or basically any kind of chart within Canva. This is an incredibly useful feature for those who need a way to present data in a visually interesting way.
  4. Present your ideas without a goddamn PowerPoint
As much as PowerPoint has definitely had its time, I think that time ended as soon as the presentation feature was added to Canva. The pre-made templates for presentations in Canva are infinitely better than the ones in PowerPoint (which IMO look kind of, circa early 2000’s — and not in a good way). Plus, there are so many neat features about presentations in Canva, like the fact you can poll your audience, record a narrated presentation, and even publish your presentation slides to a website at the click of a button.
  5. Yep, websites on Canva is a thing too
And your website design can then be instantly published using a free Canva domain, or you can use an existing domain that you own, OR you can even purchase a new domain to use — all from within Canva. And the websites are responsive, load incredibly fast, and look great. (Very easy way to build a landing page in literally minutes). Oh and did I mention that this year they are rolling out analytics within the websites?
  6. Anyone say TEMPLATES?
Not only are the pre-made social media templates awesome, there is also the option to make your own editable, shareable (and sellable) templates within Canva. People literally make thousands doing this by simply making downloadable digital templates using Canva, and then selling them on their little Etsy shop or whatever. It sounds kind of made up, but I checked, and it is actually a real thing.
  7. Canva Docs (soon!)
This is also going to be a thing in the very near future. The Canva Docs feature is currently in beta testing (sigh, I am waitlisted for the beta), but you best believe when it is launched I will gladly abandon Google docs, Word docs, or any other kind of docs, forever, with no regrets. Check out all the features that are going to make Canva docs amazing.
  8. Anyone can edit video using Canva and make it look easy
No need to have any previous experience to produce a video that looks like it could have been made by a pro, within minutes. Plus, just as you have access to all kinds of high quality stock photos on Canva, you also have access to tons of stock videos and music to use — so even without the budget or the time to shoot your own videos, you can still create excellent high quality video content for your social media.
  9. Turn your Canva designs into real life stuff
What kind of stuff, you ask? Well pretty much whatever stuff you want, t-shirts, mugs, posters, photo books and so much more. All you have to do is just press print, choose what you want your design to be printed on, and it gets delivered to your doorstep. So cool.
  10. You’ll never need to pay a subscription fee for Adobe Creative Cloud again
While many people scoff at the idea of Canva replacing the Adobe tools which have become industry standards, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, I personally feel that they are overly complex for the needs of most people, and are too expensive in order to be a good option for most non-industry users. Canva gives those people access to an incredibly powerful suite of creative features, so they are able to get involved in the content creation world, without being overwhelmed by a high subscription price, or an unnecessarily complicated UI.

Seriously, using Canva is so simple that without any instruction whatsoever, my 9 year old stepdaughter was able to instantly figure it out, and she now regularly uses it to create graphics and digital art on her ancient 32GB iPhone 6. Which, on a side note, runs Canva with no issues or lag, because Canva is a shockingly lightweight program and won’t eat up your RAM like Photoshop or Illustrator does.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on using Canva for content creation, so feel free to share what your experience was like using Canva, and if you haven’t tried it yet, well ffs, just go and make an account already. Oh did I say that it’s free. Let me say it one more time, in case you missed that — It’s free.
